The San José is a foundational work in the Mission Bell Collection™. Inspired by the San José de la Laguna mission (est. 1699) west of Albuquerque, this design honors one of the best-preserved early missions in North America. It is a work of Modernist Alchemy, designed to capture the atmospheric stillness and historical depth of the New Mexico landscape.

Unlike mass-produced chimes or the sand-cast bells of the 19th century, the San José is a hand-fabricated instrument engineered for longevity.

• The Maker’s Mark: Authenticity is guaranteed by the artist’s monogram—a small "M" hand-stamped onto the striker—certifying its status as a genuine Lago Luna original.

Historical Narrative: Gold, Silver, and Sacred Symbols

The mission at Laguna Pueblo is renowned for its interior—a rare mixture of Spanish colonial paintings and sacred tribal symbols. Our bell honors the resourcefulness of the villagers who, in the absence of traditional foundry access, melted down their copper cookware and silver jewelry to cast the voices of their community. The San José bell reflects this spirit of resilient beauty and "American Made" pride.
