San Miguel Mission Wind Bell: A Tribute to America’s Oldest Church
The Resonance of the "Barrio de Analco"
The San Miguel is a cornerstone of the original Mission Bell Collection™. Inspired by the San Miguel Mission in Santa Fe (est. 1605)—widely reputed to be the oldest church structure in the United States—this design captures the endurance of the high desert. It is an acoustic focal point designed to bring a sense of "Modern Heritage" to contemporary gardens, private courtyards, and luxury interior retreats.
Artisan Craftsmanship: Forged Strength
While frontier bells were often crudely cast in sand molds, the San Miguel is a product of precision Modernist Alchemy. Individually hand-fabricated by Master Craftsman Marc Staples, this bell is built to outlast the elements while maintaining a refined, artistic silhouette.
-
Material Composition: Hand-wrought from architectural steel and select cast iron elements.
-
Acoustic Profile: Unlike the shimmer of mass-produced chimes, the San Miguel offers a deep, percussive "Rustic Resonance." It is engineered to engage in the average breezes, providing a grounding atmospheric backdrop.
-
The Living Finish: Each bell is treated with a signature chemically-applied patina.
Historical Narrative: A Legacy of Fire and Faith
Built between 1605 and 1608 on the "other side" of the Santa Fe River—known as the Barrio de Analco—the San Miguel Mission has survived centuries of upheaval, including the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. Our bell honors this survival, transforming heavy-gauge metal into a melodic artifact that connects the 17th-century frontier to the modern home sanctuary.
The Maker’s Mark
Every original work from the Lago Luna Studio bears the monogram of the artist—a small "M" hand-stamped onto the striker—certifying its provenance as a genuine Marc Staples original.

Technical Engineering & Acoustic Profile: Unlike the thin shimmer of mass-produced aluminum chimes, the San Miguel is hand-fabricated from architectural steel and select cast iron elements. It is engineered for a deep, percussive "Rustic Resonance"—a grounding atmospheric frequency calibrated to engage with average breezes while providing a full-bodied auditory experience.
The Living Finish: Each bell is treated with a signature chemically-applied patina, a proprietary metallurgical treatment that honors the "Frontier Mission" aesthetic. This finish is designed to evolve gracefully, deepening in character as it interacts with the local climate, reflecting the resilience of the Barrio de Analco.
Artisan Metadata: Individually hand-wrought at Lago Luna Studio. Every San Miguel is an investment-grade original, carrying the hand-stamped "M" monogram on the striker. It serves as a functional artifact of survival and faith, connecting 17th-century frontier history to the luxury modern home.
