Mission Espada Wind Bell: Hand-Forged Bronze & Steel Acoustic Sculpture
Where Heritage Meets Modernist Alchemy
The Mission Espada is a milestone in the Lago Luna Original Mission Wind Bell Collection™. As the first design in our series to incorporate architectural bronze as a decorative medium, it represents a sophisticated evolution of the traditional wind bell.
Each Espada is individually hand-wrought by master craftsman Marc Staples in our Buffalo Junction, Virginia studio. This isn't just a garden accent; it is an acoustic sculpture designed to ground a space, whether it’s a high-end coastal loggia, a modern greenhouse, or a minimalist interior sanctuary.
Artisan Details & Finish
-
The Signature Motif: A hand-sculpted grape cluster motif in bronze provides a tactile, organic contrast to the industrial strength of the bell's body.
-
The Living Patina: We use a proprietary torch-firing process to create a Weathered Bronze Finish. This produces a vibrant, iridescent spectrum ranging from deep, shadowed obsidian to radiant golds and yellows that shift with the natural light.
-
The Maker’s Mark: Authenticity is everything. Every Espada bears the artist's monogram—a discreet "M" hand-stamped onto the striker.
A Legacy of the American Southwest
This piece honors Mission San Francisco de la Espada, established in 1690. From the nation’s oldest functioning aqueduct to the iconic brick archways of San Antonio, the mission represents a 300-year connection between the land and the hand. Our bell captures that spirit of resilience and historical continuity, offering a melodic echo of the frontier for the modern home.
